INTRODUCTION – The Hairdresser’s ToolkitTools is about understanding what each cutting tool does — and how every tool changes the outcome of a haircut. We explore the core tools of professional haircutting, including straight blade scissors, texturising scissors, razors, clippers, combs and the Dare Chisel® — and how each one creates shape, volume, softness, structure, or texture.
You’ll learn what each tool does and when and when to use it — so you can confidently translate inspo pics into tailored, wearable haircuts using all the resources available to you. You’ll also build awareness around correct tool handling and care — helping protect your hands, your body and your career.
By completing this module, you establish a strong foundation in tool selection and application, allowing you to adapt any haircut to your client’s individuality with clarity, confidence, and control.

MODULE 1 – Beginner TechniquesBack to basics! This module establishes the core cutting methods that underpin all haircutting decisions. You work with fundamental techniques — solid form, uniform layer and graduation — not as haircuts to memorise, but as structural tools for building shape, balance and movement.
The focus is not speed or variation. It’s precision, clarity and repeatability. When these techniques are understood properly, they become reliable reference points — no matter the length, hair type, or tool being used.
